From Alan Bock
Here’s another defense, much more aggressive than mine, of Ron Paul’s association with those newsletters that were published between about 1989 and 1994, from Justin Raimondo over at Taki’s Top Drawer. Justin does provide some context for the quotes, showing that many of them were hardly out of the conservative mainstream. Maybe true, but I still think severeal went over the line into racial pandering. Here’s another chronology by a Paul supporter that notes the Jamie Kirchick piece was timed to hurt Ron Paul in the New Hampshire primary. Actually, it came out either the day of or the day after the primary and probably had no impact, but it was scheduled to come out earlier and there’s little doubt there was something of a coordinated smear campaign. Anyway, read and judge for yourself.
